Kreative Knowledge is the productivity and business education, coaching and consulting practice run by Matt Moran. Providing live and online workshops, tutorials, and consulting to help you grow your business.

I have been programming for years – turning complex business automation problems into streamlined and automated processes for nearly 20 years.

In particular, data analysis, decision support and automated reporting systems, workflow & business process re-engineering, and document assembly are my greatest areas of passion.

They form the crux of what Kreative Knowledge provides our clients.

We focus on utilizing tools that are readily available for most organizations.  Microsoft’s Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel, Powerpoint – and other apps) include Visual-basic for Applications (VBA).  VBA is the underlying programming language to Microsoft Office.  It goes far beyond the simple macro languages of the past.

VBA’s ability to interact with external applications using .NET and other technologies, allowing it to tie-into a variety of internal database systems, provides a tool that if often unused or underutilized in most organizations.

At Kreative Knowledge, we believe the simplest solution is often the best.  The ready-made tools that are already built-into Microsoft Office provide a rapid development and integration platform for automating all types of business process.

For instance, if your organization pulls data from an accounting or sales system and then creates Excel sheets for reporting or analysis, it is very likely that the manual process you go through to create those spreadsheets can be fully-automated.

This streamlines your reporting and removes costly errors and manual labor.

If you would like to find out more about the possibilities of automating your business processes and reporting, contact Kreative Knowledge.

    Hi Matt,
In my company we have reverse condition; we are trying to map mini MS Excell apps or reports to enterprise application as users are no longer be able to manage and maintain Excel apps.
I agree your opinion on “simple is the best” but business is not sure how to transform simple ones to evolving requirements. do you have any thought on that?

    Dear Matt,

I am an Accountant with a love for technology. I am also passionate about streamlining routine processes and automating reporting processess. I have designed and implemented many forms (using Excel & VBA)while employed at several organizations in the past. Currently, out of work and looking to freelance, one of my questions is whether or not I am allowed to designate myself as an Excel anything without Microsoft certification. Can you (will you) provide feedback regarding this. Also, so far it has been difficult (make that impossible) to find clients. I’m thinking I should try to first establish a niche with small to mid-sized organizations who may benefit most from contracted services and restructuring/orgainizing/streamlining projects but so far nothing. Would you mind sharing some advice? Thank you. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts. LadyT

You can refer to yourself as an Excel expert, a Microsoft Office financial reporting and automation consultant or expert, etc. What you cannot do is use any of the certification designations. Other than that, establish yourself as an expert. Also, consider starting a blog and newsletter about tools, tips, and strategies for MS Office/Excel. This is a great way to be deemed an expert.

Establishing a niche is important – focus on 1 or 2 things from a marketing perspective. Reach out first to people you know. Find “connectors” – people you are not marketing too but who, if you help, can extend your reach to others.

    Thanks for reading.
    Matt
