Concept Over Process

What is Concept Over Process?  What does it mean to be concept-driven and process-savvy?

Concept Over Process: Premise #1

A perfectly designed & implemented project, technology, or process
that is based on a flawed business understanding or concept
will produce in a perfectly-flawed result..

…and the adverse…

A less-than optimally designed & implemented project, technology, or process
that is based on a solid business understanding or concept
will produce a solution..

The first is a costly throw-away.

The second is a solution that can be further optimized.

A Foundation For Solutions
Three additional premises provide the mindset for a methodology used to create better IT/Business alignment, more value-rich projects, and reduce scope & feature creep.

Concept Over Process provides strategies to identify three critical areas of technology based solutions.
  1. Congruency: Areas where business model and workflow are correct and matched in the technology.

  2. Incongruency: Areas where the business model and workflow go in separate directions, creating additional work, lost data, errors, and inefficiency.

  3. Omission: Areas where either the business model and workflow or the technology have no matching function or feature.  Often, this is recognized in manual process, manually tracked data (management by Excel), and separate/non-integrated applications and data.

Process Is Critical:
After a well-defined business challenge and business workflow is defined, the technical know-how and solid process controls become much more meaningful.  Our consultants use Concept Over Process as way to be more technically proficient and relevant.

We like to say (and we believe) that project success is the only acceptable outcome.
