Matthew Moran
Matthew Moran began building solutions around
technology and superior business process in the
‘80s. Working with Blue Cross, he created one of
the earliest full-document assembly & tracking
systems in the insurance industry – a system
still in operation today, nearly 13 years later.
The dramatic success of this system, both in
productivity and direct cost savings generated
an interest in his work and creative problem
solving with big names in the insurance and
legal industries. This led to projects with
HealthNet, Latham & Watkins, Fischer & Philips,
Pacificare, and others.
It was during his time with Blue Cross he wrote
the first overview of
Concept Over
Process: A Formal Project Development
Methodology. Since then, COP has become
the rallying cry and the basis for solutions
with numerous firms and projects.
Matt is the author of
The IT Career
Builder’s Toolkit – a book published by
Cisco Press
(Prentice Hall
&
Cisco Systems)
that teaches soft-skills and business
acumen as key career differentiators for the
IT professional. He has also published numerous
articles on technology automation & business
technology value.

Kurt Underwood -
Managing Director of Technology Risk Consulting Services
- Protiviti,
Inc.
Kurt & Matt’s business advisory relationship
dates back to their friendship in elementary
school. Their first endeavor was selling soda to
people waiting in line during the gas crisis of
the early ‘70s. This was followed by an
ill-advised trapeze rigged to an oak tree. When
their first patron snapped the line they began
to offer money-backed guarantees and more
rigorous testing.
Kurt Underwood’s consulting experience runs the
gamut of business and technology. As a former
senior vice president & partner with KPMG
Consulting in the 90’s, he led their Oracle
practice in the Pacific Northwest, growing it
from a team of less than 10 consultants to
become part of a national eBusiness practice of
over 500 consultants. In 2000, Kurt founded a
software development and professional services
company, secured silicon valley venture capital
investment and led the company into
profitability and eventually a 275 employee
publicly-traded services organization as the new
public “CEO and President” into 2004. In 2004,
he joined a newly emerging professional services
firm called Protiviti. Today, Protiviti is a
four-year-old, profitable and
half-billion-dollar international risk
management consulting organization.
He runs Protiviti's Western U.S. technology risk
consulting services division.
